What We Believe

West Haysville Baptist Church Statement of Faith

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God (2 Peter 1:20-21). It is the final authority for Christian faith and living (Matthew 5:17-18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The Trinity

God exists eternally in three Persons (Matthew 28:19). As Father, Son and Holy Spirit, He has revealed Himself to be perfect in love (John 3:16), righteous in all his ways (Psalm 145:17), and creator of all things (Colossians 1:16-17).

Jesus Christ is God’s eternal Son (Luke 1:35). As true God and true man (John 1.1-3, 14), He allowed Himself to be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). He taught people how to live through His sinless life (1 Peter 2:21-25), was crucified as a sacrifice for our sins (Galatians 1:3-4), arose bodily from the grave and was seen by over 500 persons (1 Corinthians 15:3-8), and returned to heaven to prepare a place for us (John 14:1-3).

Men and women were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27), tempted by Satan and rebelled against God (Romans 3:10-23). Through repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ we are forgiven of our sins (John 1:12-13), reborn by the Holy Spirit (John 3:5-8), and become children of God (Romans 8:14-16).

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit persuades to repent of our sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord (John 16:7-11). He lives in us (1Corinthians 6:19), teaches us (John 16:13), equips us (1 Corinthians 12:7-11), empowers us (Acts 1:8), and enables us to live godly lives (Galatians 5:16, 22).

The Church

The Church is the living body of Christ on earth; He is its head and source of life (Colossians 1:18). The Body is composed of those who have received Him as Savior and Lord (Ephesians 2:19-22). The Church exists to glorify God (Romans 15:5-6), to care about one another in Christ (1 John 4:7-12), to develop personal growth and service (Ephesians 4:11-13), and to communicate Christ in everyday living (Matthew 28:18-20).

The Future

Jesus Christ will return to earth (Acts 1:10-11) to raise the dead 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), judge the world (2 Corinthians 5:20) and establish His glorious Kingdom. This is the hope of the Church and its encouragement for ministry in godly living (Titus 2:11-13). Those who have been reborn will live with Him forever  (1 John 5:11-13).
